We often use the Homeopathic approach when treating children. We find that they generally respond much better to homeopathy than to medication. There are no side effects with homeopathic remedies and it works with the body’s natural ability to create balance and fight illness and disease.
Homeopathic medicine is used to stimulate and encourage the body’s own natural healing forces. We view the symptoms as natural reactions as the body attempts to clear whatever the issue(s) are and get well. Homeopathy works specifically to stimulate the body rather than to suppress it. Conventional medications generally work in the opposite direction, to suppress the symptoms which can cause further illness and imbalance. We work to express the symptoms so that the person can move forward. Moving forward allows the body to find better internal balance.
We use a comprehensive approach, spending anywhere from one to two hours observing and gathering information about the child, including the personal and family history. We also do a complete physical assessment, which most homeopaths don’t do. We look at the whole person, so this includes mental, emotional and physical attributes. Then we analyze the case and pick a homeopathic medicine that best fits the whole person. A person’s a person no matter how small!
Homeopathy is a system of medicine which was founded in the early 19th century by a German physician, Dr. Samuel Christian Hahnemann (1775-1843). Classical homeopathy rests on three principles: the law of similars, the single remedy, and the minimum dose.
The law of similars states that a disease is cured by a substance that creates symptoms similar to those the patient is experiencing. So an important part of the prescription of a homeopathic medicine is the lengthy interview to determine all the symptoms and physical evaluation.
The principle of the single remedy states that a single medicine should help all of the symptoms the patient is experiencing: mental, emotional and physical.
